Blue Brute® Bearings - Bearing Seals & Covers
Innovative Seals Protect Your Bearing Investment
You can think of seals as affordable insurance to protect your bearing investment. That’s why QM Bearings continues to develop innovative sealing options for Blue Brute bearings.
With the addition of our newest sealing innovations—the “O” and “ML” seals—QM Bearings now offers 15 primary and secondary sealing choices. The “O” seal is a triple lip seal made of high strength urethane for superior abrasion resistance. The “ML” seal, a steel mechanical labyrinth seal, is ideal for extreme contaminant exclusion and grease retention in mining, aggregate and similar severe duty applications.
Primary Seals
Primary seals are installed between the inner ring of the bearing and the housing. They are held securely in place by the external housing nut. Primary seals can be contacting or non-contacting, purging or non-purging and are available in several material compounds for a variety of applications.
Triple Lip Seals - contacting, self-purging, low to moderate speeds

Double Lip Seals - contacting, non-purging, low speeds

Labyrinth Seals - non-contacting, non-purging, high speeds

Secondary Seals & Covers
In many circumstances bearings fail due to premature seal failure. This is usually the result of harsh operating environments or lubrication issues. QM Bearings has developed secondary sealing options that offer an additional barrier which provides protection for the primary seal. These economical secondary seals and covers are easily outfitted on virtually all Blue Brute bearing units.
'T' Teflon Labyrinth Secondary Seal

The T seal, available exclusively with our Steel Open-End Covers, is a Teflon labyrinth seal designed for use on applications where contamination and moisture are present. The Teflon labyrinth seal provides superior protection, high running speeds, and it doesn't damage the shaft.
'DR' Triple Lip Secondary Seal

The DR seal, available in nitrile rubber or optional Viton®, is our standard triple lip seal adapted for use on our open end covers and piloted flange cartridge backing plates (Y). This seal is able to move within the cover or backing plate opening to accommodate misalignment while maintaining full contact to the shaft for positive sealing.
'VR' V-Ring Secondary Seal

The VR seal, made of nitrile rubber, rides on the shaft and seals against our open end covers and flange block backing plates (UFP).
'CC' Contamination Collar

The steel CC contamination collar mounts to the shaft and mates into a labyrinth within our specially designed open end covers, piloted flange cartridge backing plates (Y) and flange block backing plates (CFP). The CC collar also includes a v-ring seal for an extra level of protection against contamination.
'CS' Closed End Covers
These snap on covers are designed to be virtually indestructible and extremely convenient. They are made from structural urethane and install easily. The cover completely seals the bearing, preventing contamination from reaching the primary seal. Every cover is outfitted with a grease fitting to fill the cover cavity for an added barrier against contamination.
'CJ', 'CK' and 'CV' Open End Covers
These snap on covers are made from structural urethane for repeated and continuous use. The covers are used with either a triple lip seal (DR), a v-ring seal (VR) or a contamination collar (CC) to help prevent contamination from reaching the primary seal. Every cover is outfitted with a grease fitting to fill the cover cavity for an added barrier against contamination.
'Y' Piloted Flange Backing Plates
Our piloted flange cartridge bearings can be fitted with a urethane backing plate bonded to the back side of the pilot. This backing plate, when used in conjunction with either a triple lip seal (DR) or a contamination collar (CC), provides an additional barrier against contamination for your most demanding applications.
'UFP' and 'CFP' Flange Block Backing Plates
Due to how flange block housings are typically installed, there’s not enough space for a standard snap on cover on the back side of the flange block. For this application, we have developed the UFP and CFP backing plates that fit flush with the back of the housing and create a labyrinth over the inner ring. Additional protection is afforded when the UFP backing plate is combined with v-ring seal (VR) or a CFP backing plate is combined with a contamination collar (CC).
